6 in ten children live without a father, it is important that there are benefits for single mothers. Most benefits for single mothers include Medicaid, food stamps (EBT), WIC and Housing. While the government tries to provide help sometimes it is not enough. It has been estimated by the department of agriculture that it will cost somewhere around one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars to raise a child from birth to the age of eighteen. Most single mothers need to work two jobs just to make ends meet. The second job is what would resemble the supplemental income provided by a father who is not there.

Medicaid Benefits for Single Mothers

Medicaid benefits for single mothers provide a state and federal program that helps cover doctor and hospital bills for low income single mothers. Single mothers are able to take their children to the dentist and even receive help to cover the cost of prescription medications. The Medicaid benefits for single mothers are not only for the children; Medicaid covers the mother as well. In Florida alone Medicaid is used by over three million people and it is estimated they are going to spend approximately twenty one billion dollars this year alone.

Housing Benefits for Single Mothers

Housing benefits for single mothers help them pay their rent. Housing benefits do not apply to mortgage or home loans. If the single mother has a low income or is not able to work at all housing will pay most or all of the rent. In most places the wait for the housing benefits results in the single mother and her children having to live in missions for months until the housing is approved.

WIC Benefits for Single Mothers

Most single mothers get benefits during and right after pregnancy. The WIC program is designed to provide nutritional supplements to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and children after they are born. The program usually lasts until the child is 5 years old. These programs are designed by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and The American Academy of Pediatrics.

Food Stamp Benefits for Single Mothers

Out of all Food Stamp benefits received, eighty five percent go to single mothers. Most single mothers on the food stamp program will continue to be dependent on them for a long period of time. It has been said that dependence on this type of benefit often times hurt children and single mothers, in the sense that the mother will become accustomed to one way hand out and will be less apt to try and provide their own support.

These types of benefits also support marriage out of wedlock. An example of this type of benefit the single mother would receive that supports this theory is; if a mother is receiving help alone and not married and the father makes a decent wage, they would be making a decent combined income between the government help and the father’s income. If the mother and the father are to get married then the family would be penalized from the government by garnishing their financial support.

Scholarships for Minority – With the rising cost of everyday living, it has become more and more difficult to make ends meet. Most of the bills are inexorably moving beyond the normal households’ availability to pay. And this situation is for the typical household. Imagine the situation of the minority that has already been struggling even before the economy took a turn for the worse. House payments, utilities, tuition, gas, these are just some of the payments that need immediate attention. But for those who have dreams, there is still hope for their children to have a better life.

Scholarships for minority aims to give families a chance at a better life by providing educational assistance to deserving students coming from families considered to be the minority in the country. Knowing the kind of life a lot of these people go through, a scholarship for minority is a blessing that a lot of people would like to have come their way.

Many scholarships are geared towards arming the different minority groups in the US, be the group mentioned is a minority in terms of race or religion or political inclination. Scholarships for minority take the time to prepare their scholars for a better chance at getting up on their own two feet and keeping them up and facing life with their heads held high no matter what they believe in or where their roots are. Knowing that there are scholarships out there not specifically geared towards athletics would make the most deserving students try out their wings and see where these will lead them.

Several scholarships for minority are run by commercial institutions like the Ronald McDonald Foundation, while some are given by non profit organizations and some are offered by foundations. The range of the disciplines are as varied as the unique blend of minority the country has. There are scholarships for the sciences, mathematics, linguistics, education, business, and more. It only takes s family with the right belief in one of their own to make the necessary inquiries to pull down a scholarship for their own kin.

But even though the scholarships are out there, it is merely the first step to a better life. Scholarships are very difficult to keep. But the work needed to make the student deserve the scholarship is a very difficult decision. For families that wish to reach out for their loved ones, to give them a fighting chance at a better life, they should embrace change in their outlook in life and take the chance, and make their own destinies.

There are conferences for this organization across America where girls can meet with the foundation’s employees and network with other leaders. Note, however, that the deadline for entry is in February, so be sure to apply early. Go to the organization’s website for more information.

Young women who have participated in Girl Scouts of America have many options for scholarships. There are dozens of scholarships for girls sponsored by this organization. While some are for smaller amounts like $250, some go much higher to provide a significant amount of money. These scholarships are available for numerous different types of achievement. Some are focused exclusively on academic achievement, while others are awarded to girls who are selfless in their community work. Many of these scholarships require that the girl be a registered participant with the Girls Scouts organization for at least one year. The Girl Scouts website provides a search tool for finding the information easily. Go here to search by the state in which you live or by type of scholarship available.

Finally, girls who play sports will find that there are numerous scholarships for girls who are athletes. Whether it is soccer, softball, or golf, colleges are willing to pay for all or part of a student’s tuition in order to have a talented athlete as a part of their sports program. Check each college or university’s website or call the local athletic department for information about how to apply for a sports scholarship. High school athletic coaches are also often a good source of information for how to contact college coaches and admissions departments. There are many options available to help pay for the significant expense of a college education. It is wise to look in as many areas as possible for financial assistance. General availability scholarships are open to everyone, meaning both males and females are eligible to be awarded the money.

Therefore, by looking for girls only scholarships, the number of applicants has immediately been cut in half. To maximize the chance for success, check both general availability scholarships as well as scholarship for girls only.
